About me
Hi my name is Haley, I am a victim of suicide and I strongly believe that the ignorance of suicide needs to stop.
I was six when my father decided he wanted to take his own life, however, not only did I lose my father, I lost my way. For some odd reason, people don't know how to react to a family grieving from suicide. Why should my grief be any different than your’s? Because of this my family and I would pretend everything was okay. That nothing had changed at all. |
For anyone experiencing this, don’t hesitate to get professional help.
I distinctly remember everyone asking me, “Are you mad at your father?” How could I be mad, I was six; I didn’t even know what was going on. Here’s the thing, even though this death was unusual, I will, you will, and everyone else will, grieve the exact same way no matter the cause of the death. FROM VICTIM TO ADVOCATE We, as a united nation, need to come together to help spread the truth about suicide prevention. Twelve years ago, on September 10, the International Association of Suicide Prevention (IASP) created World Suicide Prevention Day. This is a day dedicated to bringing awareness to others, to help those suffering from suicidal thoughts and families that were effected from a death by suicide. |
Even though I have been personally affected by the aftershocks of suicide, I still make mistakes. I am only one voice among many trying to reach millions of unaware people. However, while my voice counts, I fear that it's not enough to help impact the cause of spreading suicide prevention.
